mountain spirit - Transformation on Eggli
MOUNTAIN SPIRIT: Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy offers new concert experiences in the open air, in scenic locations close to the most spectacular peaks. Classical music in all its forms, contemporary music and DJ sets make for unique, unforgettable experiences.
Four Celli on the Alp, 28 July
Embracing the slogan “Mountain Spirit”, Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy is ascending the Eggli summit this summer. The idea: open skies, closeness to the sun and stars, a laid-back atmosphere ... and, as a result, an entirely fresh concert experience! The event kicks off on Sunday morning with a leisurely brunch. Four cellists from the Gstaad Festival Orchestra set the perfect musical vibe with a joyful blend of genres and hues, ranging from Debussy’s Clair de Lune to Wagner’s Lohengrin!
Best of Swing, 31 July
Cab Calloway’s “Minnie The Moocher” or Benny Goodman’s “Sing Sing Sing”, Count Basie’s “Sent For You” or Artie Shaw’s “Begin The Beguine” ... on this evening, the New York spirit of the 30’s and 40’s comes to life with Andrej Hermlin and his famous Swing Dance Orchestra – naturally with all the dresses and suits from those glamorous nights! Here and there, we may encounter some surprising detours to lesser-known pieces of the time. Alongside Andrej Hermlin, his children Rachel and David take the stage to make the evening an unforgettable journey back to the golden era of swing with their vocals and drumming!
Visions of Classical Music, 7 August
An event like this is surely something entirely new for you too! On one hand, the music won’t be surrounded by the usual concert hall ambiance; instead, it will unfold outdoors on the breathtaking new terrace at the Eggli summit. On top of that (literally), the Vision String Quartet will perform standing up and without sheet music – and all of this with such an eclectic programme! In the first part, brace yourself for 20th-century “classics” from Bloch and Shostakovich, before the Berlin-based quartet steers into the jazz and folk realms showcased on their album “Spectrum”, which will then open up the stage for a set with DJ & electric violonist Seth Schwarz. Get ready for a leisurely evening on the alpine meadow!
Planets by Night, 10 august
Imagine gazing at the stars up close ... all while being enveloped in music dedicated to the celestial entities of our solar system – an extraordinary encounter that our new concert series, “Mountain Spirit”, brings to life. Presented by Immanuel Richter and soloists from the Gstaad Festival Orchestra, this nighttime concert on the Eggli promises the seven movements of the suite, elegantly adorned in a vibrant brass ensemble: musical portraits bursting with character, expression, and atmosphere!
